Want To Prevent Your Child From Getting Weight-Related Diseases In The Future?

Background


High-fibre intake has been shown to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes in adults.


This study is looking at whether taking a daily fibre supplement can improve metabolic syndrome risk factors in children 9-13 years old who are overweight. 


Kids aged 9-13 years old are invited to participate. A gift card will be given upon completion of the 3 study visits.

Why Participate?

  • Participants' children may see an improvement in their weight and overall health.
  • Participants will be provided a copy of their child’s individual results from blood analysis and other measurements along with a comparison to national guidelines.
  • Participants may be helping to discover a potential non-medication option for kids' weight management.
  • Participants will be given a gift card upon completion of the 3 study visits.
  • Participants will be helping to advance medical research aimed at improving kids' health.

Who Can Participate?

  • Able to consume milk products
  • Above the average weight for their age
  • Able to attend 3 study visits at the research site over approximately 4 months
  • Has a parent or guardian willing to provide informed consent

Meet the Research Coordinator

Suleen Ho 

Suleen has been a researcher at Curtin University for over 15 years with a background in nutrition. Her primary interests are cardiovascular disease, obesity, and metabolic syndrome and how lifestyle modifications, through diet or exercise, are able to improve health.
